our future generation

Today i sat in my desk thinking about a little girl's situation, well not so little, since she is a senior in high school and expecting her second child, but nevertheless she is still a child. She gets beat up by her current boyfriend and some of her friends are concerned, but nothing can be done unless she says something or someone actually sees him doing it. I am a mom and a woman, and to think that my daughter could go through something like that broke my heart. I immediately thought to myself, well where are her parents, but who am I to blame them. Maybe they have to work a lot or maybe that is the environment that she grew up in so she doesn’t know to expect anything different. I am not sure how to express the feelings of anger, sadness and many more. I know that we all do the best we can as parents to provide our kids with the best and teach them to expect the same from everyone. But I don’t know if that is the same thing being taught to other kids that would be around mine. I just hope that she opens her eyes and realize that she had two little ones to think about, not just herself and that they are a lot of women that go through the same thing, but that she does not have to sit there and be treated in that manner. To all the parents I say, we need to teach our kids respect, respect for themselves and everyone else. They are the ones in charge of our future and I am not so optimistic that we are raising the best citizens.

  1. Adriana, this blog posting is so sad. Children do only know what they have been exposed to, and apparently this young woman does not know anything else. Can you step in and help her? She is already in an adult situation that she is too immature to handle the adult role she is in.

  2. Well, it seems like the social worker and the councelor at the school have spoken to her and apparently she decided to talk to the officers on site about her situation. I hope that she did, and that she really gets out of that environment. Officers cannot disclose that information to us, but she seems like she is going to try. I feel terrible for her, but specially her two little ones. I am a mom and i would do anything in the world to protect my kids from anything and anyone. I know we can only do so much, but i at least try to set a good example of how a person and specially a girl should be treated. I tell my husband all the time to model what a man should be like because hopefully she will see that and expect to be treated like the lady she will become. Like opening doors and pulling out a chair to sit, small things that say alot. I wish i could have the power to help all of those kids that are in bad situations, i really do, but all i can do is pray and help those that i can.
